St. Edward's University Magazine Spring 2013
A few months ago, I grabbed my reporter’s notebook and a pen and walked up three flights of stairs to meet with Professor of Political Science Neal Wise. I settled into his book-patterned settee, surreptitiously checked out the books in his overflowing book case and got ready for an hour-long conversation on Professor Wise’s favorite books.
The interview was a delight. He said things like, “Poetry is whimsy that warms the soul the way a light sweater does the body on a cool spring morning.” He made many more equally poignant comments, a few of which made it into our finished piece in the spring issue of St. Edward’s University Magazine on Wise’s favorite books.
This issue honors many of the smart and interesting and passionate professors you find on the hilltop. On page 14, we feature seven faculty members who are rock stars of the classroom. And in this issue’s Web Extras, we bring you the ultimate summer reading list, brought to you by more of our noteworthy faculty members.
If you need more proof that our professors are fantastic, check out some of the things their former students are doing. Our story on page 24 showcases young alumni who are pursuing their passions. Three of them (Alex Winkelman, Cristina Hales and Ryan Schmidt, all of whom happened to graduate in 2011) take us behind the scenes of their really cool day jobs.
Of course, there’s more, too: Our Digital Media Management MBA students tell you what trends emerged from this year’s SXSW Interactive Festival. Construction has taken over the hilltop, and we’ve got a slideshow to prove it. Be sure to check out all of our Web Extras and the print issue, too.
