Overview:
St. Edward’s University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position in Graphic Design to begin Fall 2013. The position on the faculty of the School of Humanities will be filled at the assistant professor level with salary depending on qualifications and experience. Teaching responsibility will be in the undergraduate Graphic Design Bachelor of Arts (BA) program. This position is posted as a nine-month contract.
Responsibilities:
Teach four courses per semester, two semesters per year.
Pursue professional development and scholarship in area of specialization.
Provide leadership and teamwork in curriculum development and design pedagogy.
Serve as an academic advisor.
Participate with colleagues in extracurricular events for Graphic Design majors.
Mentor students engaging in scholarly activities that are discipline-specific.
Participate in departmental, School of Humanities, and campus projects, events, and committee work.
Show commitment to social justice, multidisciplinary collaboration, and global initiatives.
Interact with business, government, and/or non-profit community to develop service opportunities for students.
Fulfill other required faculty responsibilities as outlined in the Faculty Manual.
Qualifications:
MFA in Design or equivalent terminal degree in related discipline.
Strong evidence of excellence in design, including a mastery of technical skills.
Demonstrated grounding in formal design principles, design processes, design pedagogy, and emerging practices.
Prior teaching experiences and course design at the undergraduate level preferred.
Ability to incorporate an interest in and knowledge of design theory and criticism, methodology, research, and history into studio classes as reference and context.
Excellent written and spoken English communication skills required.
Excellent interpersonal skills required.
Educational philosophy consistent with a liberal arts emphasis of the lifelong learner and St. Edward’s Mission Statement.
Successful completion of an employment and/or criminal history background check required.
