Overview:

Working with the Marketing Office and under the direct supervision of the Director of Communications, the Special Events Associate will manage special events and promotional activities to help raise the visibility and enhance the reputation of St. Edward’s University in support of the university’s strategic priorities. The Special Events Associate will design and implement events, and will communicate news about events to: strengthen the institution’s relationship with internal and external communities, support enrollment and recruiting efforts, showcase the university, and contribute to specific public relations efforts.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Event Planning for Marketing: design, organize and implement special events and promotional activities; counsel other university offices on event planning; develop and manage timelines and budgets; hire and manage all event vendors; conduct event evaluations to determine effectiveness and guide future plans; For Admissions: work collaboratively with admissions event staff to develop strategies and help design key recruiting events. Public Relations/Media Relations: participate in marketing and promotional strategies for events; promote on-campus events to external and internal audiences; assist with internal communication writing projects; assist with media relations and social media as needed.

Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree in public relations, journalism, marketing or related field with at least five years progressively responsible experience in a complex organization with responsibility for event planning, internal communications and/or public relations. Demonstrated ability to manage and guide staff members who are not direct reports. Must demonstrate superior communication skills, including writing, editing and public speaking, and have experience communicating institutional messages to internal and external audiences. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community are extremely important. Candidates must demonstrate a high degree of accountability in defining event objectives and measuring outcomes. Occasional weekend or after-5p.m work required.  Successful completion of an employment and/or criminal history background check required.
