Police Servicesvehicle unlocks

The St. Edward's University Police Department is a service-oriented organization that responds to the needs of the university community. The department provides 24-hour-a-day patrol coverage for the campus and all facilities, including administrative, athletic and academic buildings, residence halls, the apartment complex, athletic fields and parking lots.

The University Police Department employs 14 commissioned police officers that include the Chief, a lieutenant, three sergeants and nine officers. All of our police officers are licensed by the State of Texas and commissioned by the university in accordance with the Texas Education Code. These officers are vested with full law enforcement powers and responsibilities identical to those law enforcement agencies within the state of Texas. Our Department works closely with the Austin Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies to promote a safe environment for the campus community.

The University Police Officers are responsible for a full range of police services, including enforcement of laws regulating underage drinking, the use of controlled substances and possession of weapons; investigation of incidents/offenses, and motor vehicle accidents; crime reports, assisting with medical and fire emergencies, and all other matters requiring law enforcement assistance.

Potential criminal actions, suspicious activity or persons and on campus emergencies can be reported directly by any student, faculty or staff member. The University Police Office or the on duty officer may be reached at any time by dialing 448-8444 or campus extension 8444. There are several emergency call boxes on campus that ring directly to the University Police Office. The department has a radio/telephone interconnect system that provides direct contact with the on-duty officer when the office is closed. The on-duty officer also carries a cellular phone for backup communications. Students and faculty and staff members who are victims of or learn about major crime on campus — such as a hate crime, a sexual assault or a crime involving alcohol, drugs or weapon violations —  can also use the university’s confidential crime incident report form to alert UPD that the crime has occurred.

Office hours: seven days a week, 8 a.m. - 10 p.m.
Holy Cross Hall, room G2

If you are coming from off campus, you may want to call the office for possible closure due to an unforeseen event.
