Online Housing Lottery & Fair
Frequently Asked Questions for Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors
Upperclassmen interested in living on campus next year will want to participate in the Online Housing Lottery on Feb. 11-13. Participating in the lottery determines the date on which you’ll register for housing. With the addition of a new residence hall in Spring 2009 and some changes to the housing policy, you may have additional questions about on-campus housing.
Here are the answers to the questions that most students want to know about housing registration and the new residence hall.
How do I sign up for on-campus housing?
First, you’ll need to participate in the Online Housing Fair Lottery sometime between 12:01 a.m. on Feb. 11 and 11:59 p.m. on Feb. 13. Simply log into EdWeb anytime during the lottery and receive a random time slot (based on when you enrolled at St. Edward’s) to register for housing. It doesn’t matter when you when you participate in the lottery — just make sure you login sometime during those three days. (link to http://www.stedwards.edu/regist/stuinfo.htm)
Once you have your time slot, you’ll be able to register for housing during the Spring 2008 Online Housing Fair, which takes place Feb. 18–21.
How is my registration slot time decided?
Your registration time is based on the semester you first entered St. Edward’s University. For example, if you entered the university Summer 2007, your randomly selected time will be on Feb. 18 or 19. Please note that your entrance date may be different than your class (freshmen, sophomore, etc.) status.
Why do some students get to register before me?
St. Edward’s is committed to providing the best housing possible for its students. Due to our growing size, though, there simply isn’t enough on-campus housing for all students. For that reason, we have to determine who has priority, and the university has decided to give that priority to freshmen and sophomores.
Why? To help students adjust to college life, we require freshmen to live on campus their first year and encourage sophomores to stay on campus their second year. This gives students additional support their first two years of college and helps establish a strong community that lasts throughout their entire college experience.
What happens if I don’t get the option I want?
If you don’t get your first choice or a spot at all, you can choose to be placed on a wait list. The Residence Life staff will keep you informed of your wait list status beginning as early as March and continuing through June 15. You’ll hear about an opening as soon as a spot meets your qualifications.
Don’t forget: Even if you don’t get housing for Fall 2008, you can apply for a spot in the new residence hall for Spring 2009.
Is there on-campus housing available for juniors and seniors?
A small number of beds will likely be available for juniors and seniors. If you’d like to live on campus, you will need to participate in the lottery and then register for housing during the Online Housing Fair.
Can I live in the new residence hall?
Yes! We want you to be among the first to call this great new space home. You can move into the new residence hall beginning Spring 2009, and you’ll have the opportunity to sign up for the new hall during the Online Housing Fair.
What will the new residence hall be like?
The new residence hall will house 300 students in an urban-living environment, complete with a coffee shop, convenience store, health center and a second dining facility. In Spring 2009, you’ll be able to choose either a single room with two students sharing a bath or a suite-style room with four students sharing a bath. In Fall 2009, upperclassmen will only be able to select single rooms.
When will I be able to see the new residence hall?
You can attend a preview party of the new residence hall on Feb. 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Mabee Ballrooms in the Ragsdale Center.
What if I can’t get on-campus housing?
The Residence Life staff will work with you to help you decide if an alternative on-campus living option will meet your needs. The staff will offer helpful information if you want to make other arrangements. We will provide information sessions in March covering topics such as where to look, how to sign a lease, additional costs and more. Watch for announcements in Student E-News and around campus. |
