Global Understanding
Maybe you have a passion for foreign policy. Maybe you dream of studying abroad.
If you're interested in learning more about the world around you, then the Global Understanding learning community is right for you. Throughout the year, you'll explore global issues and evaluate the challenges confronting global communities.
What can you expect from your experience in the Global Understanding community?
- Meet fellow students who are curious about the international community and passionate about understanding global issues.
- Work closely with a faculty member and academic advisor throughout the year.
- Participate in activities and service projects planned just for you. For example, the 2007-2008 Global Understanding community spent a semester teaching English to Burundi refugees.
- Reflect on global issues and expand your knowledge of the international community.
What is expected of you as a member of the Global Understanding community?
- Live with community members in Teresa Hall.
- Take a three-hour service-learning course during the fall semester and a one-hour service course in the spring semester. Check out the syllabus.
- Participate in monthly community dinners and weekly reflection groups.
- Engage in 15 hours of community service each semester that addresses real community needs. At the end of the year, present a community service project that highlights your experience working with the community.
