| I
am very pleased to welcome you to the School of Natural
Sciences. The School offers baccalaureate programs in biochemistry,
biology, bioinformatics, chemistry, forensic chemistry,
computer information science, computer science, and mathematics.
In collaboration with the School of Education, we also offer
degree programs for teacher certification.
An important strength of our School is the promotion of research and scholarly activities among students and faculty. All majors are required to take one or more research or project courses, which are completed in collaboration with faculty. The research sequence culminates in the capstone Senior Seminar course wherein students present their own research to students, faculty, and guests. Students not only present at Senior Seminar but also have opportunities to present at state and national professional meetings and at the on-campus Symposium on Undergraduate Research and Creative Expression (SOURCE).
The science majors at St. Edward’s are prepared to
pursue graduate degrees or to enter the workplace directly.
Through events such as the Career Symposium, the Lucian
Symposium, and ongoing speaker series sponsored by the Women
in Science and the Career Opportunities and Internship Office,
students are informed about the careers in the fields of
science.
We have a strong learning community of students and faculty
in the School of Natural Sciences. Our students are a diverse
group, with many common interests, who work closely with
faculty in the classroom, in academic advising, and in school
clubs.
Whenever you visit St. Edward’s, please come by the School office, located in JBWN 125. We’ll be happy to talk with you about our programs.
Sincerely,
Cynthia Naples,
Interim Dean
