16s-23s rRNA Gene in Selected Populations of the Cyanobacterium Nostoc; A Correlation with Environmental Factors

Abstract: Samples of the cyanobacterium Nostoc were collected from three widespread locations and examined using molecular techniques to obtain the 16s-23s rRNA gene and its Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) region. The ITS regions were sequenced and compared with each other as well as published sequences for Nostoc to examine the genetic heterogeneity in this widely distributed cyanobcterium.
