Title: Metal Photochemistry
Abstract: Some metals undergo photochemical
oxidation reactions and produce dihydrogen upon ultraviolet irradiation
in aqueous acidic solutions. Research has been done on metals
such as Chromium, Copper, Cerium, Iron, Europium, and Manganese.
Photochemical oxidation reactions involving these metals induced
with an ultraviolet lamp cause an increase in charge to the metal
ions. Explanations for the reactions and experimental procedures
will be discussed as well as data obtained such as quantum yields
for production of dihydrogen. Various mechanisms that have been
suggested will be reviewed. |
