Title: Evaluation of Software Based Firewalls for Personal Computers

Abstract: This project compared the personal software firewall products McAfee and Norton 2003 on a standard personal computer with Windows XP Professional operating system. Software firewalls are often used to help protect the home PC from unwanted intrusions from outside attackers. This project focused on scanning the ports on a standard PC that has McAfee as its firewall protection and comparing the results against Norton Firewall to establish what each firewall does to protect the ports of the PC. The project is designed to establish which product does the best job of protect the PC's ports from being compromised.
