Title: Separating Software Function from Representation
Abstract: Currently, most software written for
Unix-like systems is too dependent on the file system layout of
the target system. This leads to a lack of flexibility in the
installed software and to an unnecessary reliance on developers
to determine the layout of systems. It also leads to a large amount
of redundant work when multiple distributors release the same
software. This talk discusses a software development model designed
as a solution to these problems. It works by allowing users to
determine software's file system representation in a dynamic way. |
