St. Edward's University Welcomes Students to Campus Beginning Friday, Aug. 23
St. Edward's University welcomes students to campus on Friday, Aug. 23, as they move into the university’s residence halls. We expect more than 770 incoming freshmen beginning on Friday, with sophomores, juniors and seniors moving in on Saturday.
Not only will students be welcomed into a buzzing and vibrant campus, some for the very first time, but two brand new buildings will welcome all students back – the John Brooks Williams Natural Sciences Center South and the Munday Library. These buildings, recently featured in a story on the campus master plan in the Austin Business Journal, will be open for the fall semester after more than a full year of construction and anticipation.
Need help unloading your car and carrying boxes? You won’t have to look very far. Student volunteers will be available between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to help freshmen settle in to their new home on campus. Just look for the neon T-shirts.
Load-in instructions and maps are available here.
Move-in is part of the Welcome Days 2013 festivities, a two-week program packed with activities to help new undergraduate students experience campus life, meet faculty and staff members, and feel at home.
Welcome Days: Move-in Weekend Schedule.
Freshman students can start the year off with music, food and new friends the First Friday Block Party at 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23. On Saturday, all students and parents are invited to take a break from moving and enjoy time with family, friends and members of the St. Edward's community at the Welcome BBQ at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24 located in the lower level of the parking garage off Moody Drive.
On Sunday, Aug. 25, some very special St. Edward’s traditions take place. The Legacy Walk begins at 3:30 p.m. and marks freshmen entrance into the university community. The Legacy Walk will culminate at the Medallion Ceremony, where faculty and staff members will join President George E. Martin as he inducts freshmen into the academic community. The ceremony is from 4-5 p.m. in the Recreation and Convocation Center. During the ceremony, freshmen will receive a university medallion and gain a greater understanding of the university’s Holy Cross tradition.
Need help navigating the campus? Please feel free to ask a member of the St. Edward’s community or consult a directional kiosk near the Bookstore.
