- Tetanus booster within the last 10 years,
- 2 measles/mumps/rubella shots if born after 1957.

- Meningitis, Hepatitis B and Chickenpox vaccines are recommended, especially for students living in campus residence facilities.
The Student Health Center has a "no
show" policy to help decrease the number of missed
appointments and increase available appointments for
other students. After the third missed appointment
without a courtesy cancellation call to the Health Center,
the student loses the privilege of making appointments for the remainder of the academic year. The student may still receive care at the Health Center, but on a walk-in basis only if openings unexpectedly
become available. This means the student may have to wait
several hours to be seen, or will be referred elsewhere.
Confidentiality:
The Health Center welcomes calls from parents about their concerns related to student health care, but medical confidentiality laws require that patients over 18 years of age sign a release form giving permission to release medical information about individual situations. Whenever the Health Center sees a student who seems to be particularly ill with any condition besides a minor one (such as colds, allergies, sprains, rashes, minor infections etc.), we ask students to sign a release form so we can communicate our concerns to campus staff and/or to the patient's family. We encourage students to keep their parents informed about all aspects of their health, physical/academic/emotional.
Health Insurance:
1. All registered students are required to be enrolled at all times in a hospitalization, illness and accident insurance program that is effective locally. Health insurance coverage may be provided by the student's family or employer; otherwise, students must enroll in the health insurance program offered by the University. St. Edward's recommends that all international students, their accompanying spouse and dependents have $50,000 coverage, repatriation and medical evacuation benefits. (International students with J visas are required to have this coverage.)
2. Students are responsible for knowing the terms of their own insurance policies, especially which providers are part of their "Preferred Provider Organization" list. If a student is evaluated at an off-campus medical facility, often full or partial fees must be paid at the time of service. If the facility does "not accept student insurance" that means the student must pay at the time of service and then submit the bill to the insurance company for partial or full reimbursement. A claim form often must be sent to the insurance company along with a bill for reimbursement. Excuses:
The Health Center is not responsible
for excusing absences from class or employment, only
the instructor or employer can do that. By request,
the date and time that the student was seen at the
Health Center can be verified in writing.
Referrals:
Students may be referred to outside
health care providers by the Health Center when indicated.
Students are directly responsible to these providers
for any incurred expenses. |
