Spring 2008 Graduates:
Students who plan to graduate from the university this May
should make sure they are cleared with our office to prevent
a hold from being placed on their diploma.
- Stafford and Perkins loan borrowers are responsible
for completing an Exit Loan Session. The Stafford exit
loan session can be completed on-line here while
the Perkins session can be completed on-line here.
- If you owe a balance with the university, you will
need to pay that balance in full before your diploma
can be released. You can check your current account balances
on-line. Please note that your account may not reflect
recently incurred library or traffice fines.
Education Tax Credits/1098-T
Forms:
Information about claiming either the
Hope or Lifetime Learning Tax Credits
can be found on the IRS
website (reference
IRS Publication 970: "Tax Benefits for
Higher Education" and Form 8863: "Education
Credits"). Our office recommends
consulting with a tax preparer if you
need assistance
in determining if you qualify for these
credits and how to file the proper forms.
Our
office will mail 2007 1098-T Forms during
the last half of January. If
you have not received one from the
university by the second week in February, you can request a duplicate
copy from our office by email or
by phone at 512-448-8523 or 1-800-555-0164.
You can also reference your statements
of account on-line to
gather information about your qualified
expenses as well
as scholarship and grant amounts
received during the 2007
calendar year.
A Caution about Dropping Classes:
If you're thinking about dropping a class, you can find the current semester
refund schedule here. However, if you have
financial assistance, you need to contact our office before you drop, because
it can
have a significant impact on your eligibility.
Students who drop a class may have
their assistance revised, which can
result in the loss of grants and the
return of loan funds to their lenders
as well as the loss of future assistance.
Students who completely withdraw will
have a percentage of their aid returned
to the original funding sources, leaving
them owing a potentially large tuition
balance. Plus, these students will
lose future eligibility for assistance
at St. Edward's.
