As her Brown Scholar service requirement, Bethanie Bryant founded Young Readers University, a volunteer organization that brings Austin-area children and their parents to campus for a reading hour hosted by students at St. Edward's. She also has interned for Texas Economic Development and has published her creative writing in the university's award-winning literary and creative journal, Sorin Oak Review

Scholarship consideration is limited to full-time students enrolled in the Undergraduate College who have at least a 3.5 St. Edward's cumulative grade point average at the end of the Fall 2008. Applicants must also have successfully completed at least 12 St. Edward's University credit hours by the end of the Fall 2008 semester and be registered for at least 12 St. Edward's University credit hours for the Spring 2009 semester.
