Program: Master of Arts in Counseling
Hometown: McAllen, Texas

As a senior residential treatment officer for Travis County, Victor Peña provides therapy for juvenile offenders. He earned degrees in biology and psychology at St. Edward’s and hopes to enroll in medical school after completing his MAC degree. With the combination of a medical degree and a MAC degree, Peña plans to open a private practice.

About the Presidential Fellowship:
Presidential fellowships are available each trimester and cover the cost of one course. Applicants must demonstrate outstanding academic performance, have a graduate GPA of at least 3.5 and have completed at least 12 graduate hours at St. Edward's. Each winner is selected based on a one-page essay, which addresses the question "How will you use your graduate degree to extend the St. Edward's University mission in your life and career?"

Application deadlines for Presidential Fellowships are Nov. 1 for spring awards, April 1 for summer awards and July 1 for fall awards. Submit your application online

Scholarships available to liberal arts degree holders of any regionally accredited U.S. institution who wish to pursue a CPA certificate. Applicants must be accepted into, or int he process of applying to, a graduate program in accounting. Students already actively participating in a graduate accounting program are not eligible. $5000 award.

Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society for adult students is offering a total of $2,500 in academic achievement scholarships to students 24 years of age or older who had a minimum of 18 graded credit hours at St. Edward's University prior to the Fall 2008 semester, along with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2. The amount of each award will be determined by the scholarship committee, based on the number and merit of the applicants. Both undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to apply. The application deadline is December 15, 2008.

American Society for Industrial Security Scholarship. Check website for scholarship deadlines and other information $1000 scholarship available for students who have demonstrated academic excellence and a potential to make a contribution to the field of business security. Students must have completed at least one year of study.
Ayn Rand Atlas Shrugged Essay Contest. Go to website for rules and additional information For all college students enorlled full-time in a degree seeking program. Prizes range from $50 to $5,000 dollars.
