Working part-time while you're going to college can provide more than just money. You'll gain a valuable reference for future employment. As a student considering employment with the university, you should weigh the advantages of locating a job which matches your special skills, interest, and/or academic major. Many students find working enhances their management skills. And your job gives you a break from the pressure of academic life, helping you learn new things and meet new people.

These advantages of part-time employment apply as much to first-year students as to upper-class students. Working part-time in college seems like a good idea for most people, especially when you consider the importance of regular income in helping you meet your expenses.
