The Student Government Association is composed
of representatives selected from the freshman, sophomore,
junior, and senior classes and executive officers
elected at-large from the student body. The Student
Government Association acts as liaison between the
student body and the administration through its work
on University councils, boards, and committees. The
Senate holds student voice symposiums and town hall
meetings, passes bills in support of student issues,
and also initiates projects designed to meet student
needs.

I am a freshman and I don’t want to
run for office. Can I still be involved in SGA?
If you are interested in student government but decide
not to run for a senate position, we welcome you to
join as an “Associate Member.” These members
serve in similar capacities to senators, but have
no official voting power on the senate floor. All
you have to do is fill out the application, come to
a meeting and let your Class Executive Senator know
you wish to join SGA, and you are in!
What if I want to run for more than one position?
You may only serve as a senator for your respective
class, however if you do not receive the number of
votes needed to become a senator, you may still join
SGA as an Associate Member. All you have to do is
notify the president and/or Class Executive Senator
and follow the steps above.
You may also be considered for one of the appointed
positions if you do not receive the number of votes
needed to become a senator in the election; however
you must submit applications for both a senator and
any appointed position by the deadline.
