Assistant Professor of Psychology
Expertise: Dr. Yufik has wide-ranging clinical expertise as he worked for many years at a variety of mental health treatment centers including the Department of Veteran’s Affairs mental health clinic and community mental health clinics. In addition to specializing in couples counseling, Dr. Yufik has vast experience treating posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), personality disorders (e.g., borderline personality disorder), depression, and violent offenders. Dr. Yufik’s area of research centers on examining ways to improve the current diagnostic classification system used by mental health practitioners. Some current areas of research include examining the validity of the PTSD diagnosis, NIH-funded clinical trials of a novel couples-based treatment of PTSD, and examining the impact of trauma on clients diagnosed with schizophrenia.
