We know that starting college or transferring to a new university should be an exciting and happy time of your life and that it should be filled with hope and possibility.
Because that’s what college is all about — thinking about your future and beginning to see all of the hopes and dreams you want to fulfill. And that’s what the St. Edward’s experience is all about.
Our university leadership is making short- and long-term plans for our students to support them during this pandemic. We are making plans for students to return to a safe, socially distanced campus in the fall, and we’re looking forward to deliver the highest possible experience for our students, as we have throughout the past 135 years. We’re creating plans to keep our students and community safe and to adapt to the changing needs of this environment, including changes in residence halls, classrooms and dining facilities.
Challenges related to the pandemic will continue through our country, our society and our world over the next year or two or three. We want to help you develop, grow and adapt to this challenge as it unfolds and provide you with a supportive community that’s going to be your anchor as you make this big transition in your life. St. Edwards is here to help you find your purpose in the world and to help shape your future. The mission of our university has always been to contribute to a better world that needs critical thinkers, problem solvers and educated citizens who are responding to new and changing needs of our society, and that has never been more true than it is right now.
We wish you and your family health and safety, and we can’t wait to welcome you to our campus.
Vice President of Enrollment Management
During Orientation, which will be conducted virtually, you will meet with your success coach, who will journey with you your entire time at St. Edward's. You’ll also have the opportunity to register for your classes and learn about the many ways you can get involved on campus and in our broader community. You’ll meet our fabulous faculty and staff, student leaders, and your classmates. Your experience will culminate with Anchors when you arrive on campus this fall, when you’ll have an opportunity to meet your new classmates — and broader university community — face-to-face.
We’re excited to announce a free summer course for new undergraduate students. New undergraduate students enrolled for Fall 2020 can take a free online course, which will run from July 6 through Aug. 13, to earn one hour of university credit toward a St. Edward’s University degree. This course will be led by some of the best faculty at St. Edward’s and will introduce students to the liberal arts critical way of thinking as they reflect on current events.
Our students love living on campus. You will be right in the middle of all of the excitement and stay connected with your faculty and staff. In an effort to guard the health and safety of all of our campus, all of our rooms will be converted to singles at no additional charge to students. At the most, you will only share a bathroom with one other person. St. Edward’s is doing everything it can to keep students who previously requested a roommate close together or as suitemates.
One of the things that characterizes the St. Edward’s experience is that you’re accompanied by a success coach but also by outstanding faculty mentors. Our professors teach students directly in small classes. We are planning for several contingencies, including socially distanced classrooms, where the seating is appropriately spaced. We are also planning to resume high-impact labs, theater and art courses. We’re also prepared if we have to offer classes remotely. Regardless of how it turns out, students will get to know their faculty and work closely with them and support them.
