Each year, our university community rises to the challenge of ensuring that St. Edward’s can offer an affordable, life-changing opportunity to every student. In 2016–2017, the generosity of students and alumni toward their alma mater set new records for giving back. Here are ways Hilltoppers stay engaged in giving and some milestones we achieved this year.

Participating in Philanthropy Week

In October, Philanthropy Week gets underway with events that help build a culture of giving among the student body. Among the activities, a Dessert with Donors gives students a chance to hear from and network with young alumni who practice philanthropy. A Thank You Day inspires students to write notes of appreciation to our benefactors and fundraisers. And a birthday celebration for St. Edward’s blends fun and fellowship with learning about the history and nature of philanthropy on the hilltop.

“By getting to know more about the real people behind scholarships, program support and new campus facilities, students are inspired and have a better understanding of how fundraising and philanthropy work at St. Edward’s,” says Sara Hoover ’11, associate director of Annual Giving.

Philanthropy Week culminates in a Founders Day Service Project in which students and alumni participate in volunteer activities within their communities.

Boosting the Senior Gift Campaign

During Philanthropy Week, the annual Senior Gift Campaign kicks off. Our 2017 senior class continued the tradition of contributing a gift of any amount to the area of campus that matters to them the most. Compared to previous years, the Class of 2017 nearly doubled student participation in the Senior Gift Campaign, making it the most philanthropic senior class to date!

Reaching Out with #LoveBlueGiveGold

For 48 hours in February, the Love Blue Give Gold social media campaign calls on Hilltoppers around the world ­— alumni, students, parents, friends, faculty and staff — to support their favorite schools, programs and causes at St. Edward’s. Students and alumni act as Online Ambassadors, building excitement around giving back through social sharing. Our 2017 campaign achieved record-breaking participation, with contributions soaring to more than double the amount raised last year.
