In the hustle and bustle of Move-in Weekend, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed. But don’t worry — we’ve got you covered. Whether this is your first time bringing your child to campus or you’re heading into senior year, here’s a rundown of events to keep you on top of everything in those busy (but fun!) first days.

Before Move-in (New Students Only)


This online program prepares students to begin college at St. Edward’s. Make sure your student has completed Hillstart before coming to campus for Orientation.

Summer Orientation

Students attend one of six Orientation sessions on campus, where they meet fellow freshmen and campus leaders, get acquainted with the hilltop and start planning their semester. Remaining Orientations include:

  • Transfer Students:  Session 1: Wednesday, Aug. 15; Session 2: Monday, Aug. 20
  • Freshman Students:  Session 6: Wednesday–Thursday, Aug. 22–23
  • International Students:  International Check-in: Tuesday, Aug. 21, in addition to attending Transfer Session 2 or Freshman Session 6

  • Move-in for International Transfer and Exchange Students: Sunday, Aug. 19

Beginning the day after Move-in, this program is like a sequel to Orientation, helping your student adjust to life on campus right before the semester starts. All new freshmen and transfer students are required to attend. What’s freshman year like? Watch upperclassmen share their advice.

Thursday, Aug. 23, 11 a.m.–2 p.m.

Families and parents can enjoy air-conditioning and refreshments in Main Building’s Maloney Room, courtesy of the Alumni Association. Take a moment to sit down and chat with other soon-to-be lifelong Hilltoppers.

Welcome Block Party

Thursday, Aug. 23, 7–9 p.m.

New students and their families meet faculty, staff and fellow students while enjoying music by a live DJ and light refreshments.

Black Student and Family Welcome Breakfast

Friday, Aug. 24, 9–10:30 a.m.

New black students and their families are invited to a morning of breakfast and building community.

Mass of Welcome

Friday, Aug. 24, 10:30 a.m.

A Mass especially for new students and their families.

Welcome BBQ

Friday, Aug. 24, 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m.

New students and their families share some Texas barbecue before saying goodbye. Families are asked to leave by 1 p.m. so that new students can step right into the rest of the Anchors program.

Topper Nights

Friday, Aug. 24, 7:30–10 p.m.

All students come together for an evening of fun, games and community building.

Spirit Rally and Class Picture

Saturday, Aug. 25, 5:30–7 p.m.

An evening exclusively for the Class of 2022 to meet, socialize and gather for a photo with the entire entering class.

Mass of the Holy Spirit

Sunday, Aug. 26, 10:30 a.m.

A Mass for the whole community, especially returning students and their families.

Medallion Ceremony and Legacy Walk

Sunday, Aug. 26, 2–3:30 p.m.

This special tradition formally inducts new students into the St. Edward’s community. To keep it intimate, only new freshmen and transfer students may attend.

The first day of classes is Monday, Aug. 27.
