Dr. Ramsey Fowler is an associate professor of English. He also directs the Master of Liberal Art and the Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies.

Dr. Ramsey Fowler became dean of New College in the summer of 1999, having served from 1980-1999 as dean of University College at The University of Memphis and from 1968-1980 as a faculty member in the English Department. From 1970-1978 he directed the freshman and sophomore English program and from 1978-1980 The Greater Memphis Writing Project, funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities. Currently, he directs the Master of Liberal Arts program and the Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies and teaches in both these programs. In addition, he is joint, and was the original, author of The Little, Brown Handbook, now in its 12th edition.
