Dr. Beck is Associate Professor and Coordinator of Environmental Science and Policy and Director of the Professional Science Master's in Environmental Management and Sustainability

Dr. Beck's research and teaching interests focus on environment and development policies, conservation incentives and campus sustainability.    Along with Dr. Michael Wasserman of Indiana University, he has a three year NSF funded research project in Costa Rica examining incentives for landowners to maintain forest cover and the ecological benefits of the forest fragments.  He teaches Environmental Policy courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels and also teaches Survey of Africa for GLST majors.    In addition to leading the annual EcoLead program to Costa Rica, he has taught field courses for undergraduates in France and Chile and for graduate students in Costa Rica.  Prior to joining St. Edward's University, he spent five years working in Kenya, and has been a consultant with the World Wildlife Fund and the World Bank.
