Professor Loughran came to St. Edward's in the summer of 1978 as a visiting guest artist in the Mary Moody Northen Theater's summer stock program, expecting to stay in Austin for eight weeks. That summer, she designed and built the costumes for A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and Shenandoah and played the roles of Domina and Anne.

Thirty-seven years later she is still at St. Edward's, having served the university in many capacities over the years. She taught in the Theater Department for approximately 25 years and worked on over 100 MMNT productions as an actress, director and/or costume designer, as well as performing locally. She also served as the theater's Artistic Director. More recently she has been active in General Education at SEU. She teaches core classes such as Freshmen Studies: The Sixties, American Dilemmas, Understanding and Appreciating the Arts (Theater and Film), and the Capstone Course. She has served as the Director of Capstone and is currently the Chair of the Department of University Studies.
