Susana Almanza, the founding member and Director of PODER (People Organized in Defense of Earth and her Resources), will speak about Environmental Racism, the disproportionate impact of environmental hazards on communities of color. Hazardous industrial facilities are overwhelmingly located in communities of color in Austin and across the nation. Additionally, communities of color face unique challenges with regard to climate change and sustainability. An internationally recognized leader in the environmental justice movement, Almanza has been involved in social, racial, and environmental justice efforts in Austin for four decades.
