Please join us as we welcome Andrew Skotnicki, PhD, Professor of Religious Studies, Manhattan College, for his presentation Punishment and the Limits of Love. How can Christians, and specifically Catholic Christians, be faithful to Christ and desire that another human being suffer, regardless of what he or she may have done? The author of The Last Judgment: Christian Ethics in a Legal Culture, Dr. Skotnicki presents a theological critique of civil and ecclesial punishment as a failure to love.
St. Edward's University created the lecture series to honor Bishop McCarthy, who led the Diocese of Austin from 1985 to 2001, and to underscore the university's commitment to its Catholic roots and Holy Cross Heritage. This event is free and open to the public.
