Donors and volunteers uphold the St. Edward's community.
Many students who embark on their Hilltop journeys and who learn to live our Holy Cross values are only able to do so thanks to support from donors and volunteers.
Your philanthropy prepares the next generation of global citizens to make our world a better place.
When you give to St. Edward’s, you give the gift of educational access and equity — especially to the 1,370+ students on our campus who qualify for Pell grants, an indicator of the highest financial need.
Thank you for showing Hilltoppers that their success is worth your investment. Your generosity reflects the many opportunities we have to uphold one another. We are deeply grateful for your support.
The Holy Cross Mission
Donors support the Holy Cross Mission that shapes minds and hearts.
Campus Ministry partnered with #seualumni nonprofit professionals to create virtual and outdoor opportunities for more than 120 students. This remarkable teamwork helped 36 graduates complete the 250+ service hours required to earn their Community Engagement Commencement Cords.
The Holy Cross Institute (HCI) advances Blessed Basil Moreau’s vision through events and informational resources. This year, Executive Director Dr. Marco Clark gave more than 40 lectures on Holy Cross history, mission, and charism to various audiences, including faculty from one of our Ugandan partner schools.
Thanks to a generous grant from the Summerlee Foundation, the HCI also commissioned a historian to write a History of Holy Cross in Central Texas, which is expected to go to publishing next fall.
Hilltopper Athletics is moving forward in a challenging climate for collegiate athletics worldwide.
With your support, the Athletics Department also established robust safety protocols to provide NCAA-required COVID testing, symptomatic testing, welfare checks, and case management for staff and student-athletes. This team effort kept student-athletes feeling healthy and well — resulting in zero COVID-related competition cancellations.
Donors make it possible for Hilltopper student-athletes to receive 44 hours of tutoring — and your investment paid off:
- 121 Hilltoppers made it onto the Spring LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
- 62 student-athletes earned the D2ADA Academic Achievement Award from the Division 2 Athletic Directors Association.
- Every team averaged a 3.23 GPA or higher.
Gifts of Time & Talent
When you gave your time at a St. Edward’s event or shared your talent as a volunteer, you showed students how our Holy Cross values unite us as a community. Thank you.
In a year where coming together was more challenging than ever, we are deeply grateful for the 707 individual attendees who made our 78 Hilltop events come to life.
A staggering 452 generous alumni, students, and friends shared their talents across 90 university volunteer opportunities, lending their skills as panelists, interviewers, board members, advisors, fundraisers — and so much more.
The pandemic greatly impacted students, faculty, and campus programs alike — especially those relying on in-person experiences. Donors gave the community crucial tools to sustain transformative experiential learning opportunities:
Students secured six Fulbrights, nine Gilman Scholarships, nine Martin Scholarships, seven Johnson-Turpin awards and three National Science Foundation Research Experience awards.
The Recreation and Athletic Center (RAC) remained an invaluable resource for students this year thanks to donor-supported renovations. With your help, Hilltoppers safely gathered in the RAC to recharge in the new fitness center, practice Club Sports, attend GroupX classes, and more.
Student experience donors also bolstered virtual wellness programs for students studying at home, including peer wellness coaching, health assessments, and online fitness programs.
Scholarships & Awards
Thank you for investing in student success and uplifting Hilltopper families through gifts to scholarships and grants:
796 talented scholars received donor-funded scholarships — a 21% increase in students over last year’s 658 private scholarship recipients.
Scholarship donors provided support for more than 50 new or greatly enhanced awards this year.
25 graduates became alumni thanks to full tuition assistance through the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP), which supports students from migrant farmworking families. This fall, CAMP will celebrate its 50th anniversary at St. Edward’s thanks to support from generous foundations and donors like you.
199 students received $135,562 in emergency aid this year thanks to those who gave to the Hilltoppers Overcoming Obstacles Fund (HOOF).
