Welcome To Our 48th Annual Season

Since 1972, Mary Moody Northen Theatre (MMNT) has stood at the center of the St. Edward's University professional theater training program, providing opportunities for students to work side-by-side with practicing professional theater artists and producing work designed to inspire artists and audiences alike.

MMNT is one of the few undergraduate theaters in the country operating in association with Actors’ Equity Association, providing student actors and stage managers the ability to earn points toward professional union membership, and challenging them to work at the highest professional level. Come share in the fun and excitement of theatre on the hilltop.

***A NOTE ON COVID-19 ADJUSTMENTS***
The health and safety of our students, faculty, staff, guest artists and community is our highest priority. We are actively monitoring public health recommendations from local, state and national authorities and working closely with the St. Edward’s University administration to determine how upcoming events may be impacted. To that end, we have crafted an exciting season that embraces our long-standing commitment to excellence, student development and wonderful storytelling while keeping everyone safe and healthy. We are dipping our toe in with virtual performances and carefully expanding as safety allows. Please note that performance dates may be subject to change.

MAYPEARL

A world premiere by Tlaloc Rivas
Directed by Tlaloc Rivas

February 18 - 28, 2021

Inspired by Friedrich Durrenmatt’s 1956 tragicomedy The Visit, Maypearl explores themes of greed, revenge, political freedom and social justice in a small Texas town. A darkly comic story for our times. This world premiere is MMNT’s first commission in 15 years, developed by our students in collaboration with the playwright. Stay tuned for physically distanced performance details.

TWELFTH NIGHT

By William Shakespeare

April 15 - 25, 2021

Shakespeare’s delightful comedy brings just what the doctor ordered at the end of the spring semester – poetry, music, romance, sword fighting and mistaken identity under the stars on our temporary outdoor stage, with plenty of space between patrons. Count Orsino is mad for the Countess Olivia and demands his manservant (Viola in disguise) deliver his missives of love. What could possibly go wrong, you ask? Come see.
