AUSTIN, Texas — U.S. News & World Report ranked St. Edward’s University 8th in the category of Best Regional Universities in the West in its 2020 list, marking the university’s first time to be ranked among the top 10 best universities in the region. The university rose four spots from 12th place last year.
This top 10 ranking is emblematic of years’ efforts by university leaders, faculty, staff and alumni to transform the university through the creation of diverse programs and learning opportunities that give our students a personalized education experience. This is the 17th consecutive year St. Edward’s has ranked in U.S. News’ Best Colleges list.
“We are proud to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top 10 best private, liberal arts institutions,” said Dr. George Martin, St. Edward’s University President. “The university has evolved and improved in many different respects, but one constant is our mission – a commitment to educating both the heart and the mind. Above all, we are focused on our students’ success.”
The methodology for the U.S. News regional ranking takes into account peer assessments, as well as criteria including class size, retention and alumni giving.
St. Edward’s is able to provide a high-quality educational experience by maintaining a small class size, averaging less than 20 students. Additionally, the university’s endowment, which has tripled from $32 million to $110 million, provides student aid and scholarships, and supports faculty research.
This honor comes on the heels of the university launching a Student Success Initiative that pairs each student with a success coach in their first year to help them develop personalized plans for their college careers — including classes, student activities, leadership roles, internships and more.
