With over 70,000 hours engaging our community last academic year, St. Edward's University has a strong commitment to community engagement and service.  Having been a recipient of the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll since its inception in 2006, St. Edward’s maintains strong community partnerships to assist student participation in a variety of opportunities.

Through the lens of Servant-Leadership, Catholic Social Teaching and our Holy Cross tradition, the Office of Community Engagement:

  • collaborates to engage students in service opportunities;
  • hosts events that examine the critical issues of society;
  • provides resources on service and service-learning to faculty, staff and students;
  • cultivates relationships with nonprofit organizations in the Austin community.

 Students can expect the ability to examine complex social and cultural issues through direct service, group discussion, experiential learning and reflection allowing us to ask poignant questions, make life changes in order to help others, and a continued faithfulness to serving those in need. While hard to measure, these are the impacts that we are striving towards and are committed to reaching - moving students to seek justice and become agents of change in the world – a transformation through service.

The mission of the Office of Community Engagement is to connect the university and community as partners to confront critical issues of society through engaged and transformative service experiences.

Our vision is to engage every St. Edward’s student in a meaningful service experience.
