Swim Lessons

St. Edward's University Recreation and Wellness partners with AquaKnow Aquatics to provide swim lessons to the Hilltopper community. Often called the "sport that can save your life", learning to swim is an invaluable skill for both children and adults. We encourage all students, faculty, staff, and their families to explore various class options made available. View class descriptions below.


Register today. You may also register by:

  • Completing a REGISTRATION FORM and then returning it to the Recreation and Convocation Center pool on TBD  - On Deck Registration Date
  • Mailing the form to AquaKnow Aquatics
  • Bringing the form to your first lesson
  • Delivering the form to Recreation and Wellness via Campus Mail, Box 1016

The fee for each course is $60.

Aqua Bambinos & Co.: noon–12:30 p.m.
Aqua Splashers: 11:30 a.m.–noon
Aqua Thrashers: 11 a.m.–11:30 a.m.
Aqua Techs: 10:30 a.m.–11 a.m.  
Adult Beginning: 10:30 a.m.–11 a.m.
Adult Technique: 11 a.m.–11:30 a.m.
Adult Conditioning: 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m.

Class Descriptions

Aqua Bambinos & Co.

Designed for children 6 months–4 years old. Classes require a parent to accompany the child in the water.

Goal: A high level of comfort in the water and readiness to learn to swim.

Aqua Splashers

Designed for children 4–7 years old and RANK BEGINNERS. The goal is to help children become comfortable with the aquatic environment. Skills learned include:

  • Supported and unsupported floating
  • Beginning arm and leg movement
  • Rhythmic breathing
  • Basic stroke
  • Under water exploration
  • Basic water safety skills

Aqua Thrashers

Designed for children 4–7 years old who can swim a CONTINUOUS 10 yards. Skills learned include refining:

  • Survival strokes
  • Basic competitive front and back strokes
  • Turns
  • Starts
  • Basic water safety

Aqua Techs

Designed for children 5+ years old who can swim a CONTINUOS 25 yards. Participants should have a recognizable front and backstroke and be comfortable underwater. The lesson focuses on:

  • Starts
  • Dives
  • Fitness
  • Basic water safety

Adult Beginning

Designed for learners 15+ years old who are RANK beginners. The goal is to introduce swimmers to:

  • The aquatic environment
  • Supported and unsupported floating
  • Beginning arm and leg movement
  • Rhythmic breathing
  • Basic stroke
  • Under water exploration
  • Basic water safety skills 

The class is designed for repeat enrollment until the swimmer is comfortable with level of swimming expertise.

Adult Technique

For advanced adult swimmers looking to improve stroke technique, starts, and dives, and/or who need assistance creating an individual workout program.
