Austin has long been known for its music and film industries. But today, the most dynamic digital media business growth in Texas is Austin’s interactive video game industry. Video game companies with a significant presence in Austin include some of the industry’s most prominent studios and developers, such as Electronic Arts, BioWare, Disney Interactive Studios, NCSoft, Aspyr Media and many others. With many high-paying, entry-level jobs in the video game industry, there is high demand for a qualified and educated workforce that understands the special requirements of managing people within the field.

The BBA in Interactive Games Management offers a unique and challenging degree plan designed specifically from the ground up to meet the needs of this exciting field. Drawing upon national and local industry expertise, our industry-leading Interactive Games Management degree exposes students to all three phases of the game industry: business, technology and digital creation. Upon graduation, students have a working and intimate knowledge of the game industry rooted in strong business and management practices.


With a BBA in Interactive Games Management degree, graduates are prepared to work in a variety of roles within the game industry. For example, you could become an assistant producer on a game for Electronic Arts, a playtester for BioWare®, a Q&A specialist at Aspyr®, a game industry financial analyst for Disney, or even start your own game studio. Students from the digital media programs at St. Edward’s have advanced to careers such as assistant producers, marketing specialists, social network managers and business analysts for game and digital media companies around the country.

To increase employment opportunities, many graduates pursue advanced degrees in related business disciplines, such as a Master of Business Administration (MBA). Close interaction with St. Edward's faculty, class time and participation in local events allow you to learn more about career options and graduate work. Both students and faculty are active in renowned events such as South by Southwest (SXSW), Interactive Festival, Fantastic Fest and the Fantastic Arcade.

Outside the Classroom

As a BBA in Interactive Games Management major, you’ll be immersed in the special business aspects of this exciting and growing industry. Along with your coursework in economics, marketing, management and other business disciplines, you’ll create one or more portfolio games in the St. Edward's Game Design Studio using industry-standard game-creation tools and software. A hands-on game design experience is usually reserved for students in technology or fine arts. St. Edward's program provides business students with insights equivalent to several years of real-world knowledge in the interactive gaming industry. As a result, graduates are prepared to confidently join the design process at most game companies.
