Play the music of your soul and speak a universal language

Students in the Music minor at St. Edward’s University are given the chance to explore their passion for music while learning the fundamentals of music theory, the history of music, and how to play musical instruments.

You will get the chance to explore your musical interests and express yourself through the art of music. Music is both an art and a science. You will learn the exactness of music, while also embracing the freedom of creative expression and the opportunity to document the human experience in a way that can be understood across the globe. You’ll journey through time using music as your guide, embracing all of the stories told through music. This minor requires 22 hours of coursework.

Students choose a musical instrument to focus on and also become part of one of the university’s musical groups. St. Edward's University has a number of groups dedicated to a variety of musical genres, including choral music, classical music, chamber music, mariachi, orchestra, guitar, jazz, and opera. Students will also have the opportunity to take classes in topics such as singing, vocal techniques, musical theater, and teaching music in the classroom.
