About Residence Life

The St. Edward's Residence Life program is based on a philosophy of providing an ongoing educational program focused on student needs and development. Residence Life staff work with students to enhance the co-curricular learning environment outside of the classroom. Valuable programs and activities are provided that foster learning in a positive and caring way.

Residence Life is responsible for housing more than 1,300 residents in 9 residence halls and 178 apartments. Specifically, Residence Life handles all new applications, maintains housing waiting lists, coordinates the spring Housing Fair for current students, new room and hall changes, and communications with students who have questions or concerns about on-campus housing.

Housing Sign-Up for Fall 2009

• Incoming Freshmen Students. Online housing registration began Feb. 2, 2009. Housing is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Before you can register for housing, you must submit your nonrefundable $150 enrollment deposit. (If you submit your enrollment deposit online, please allow one business day before registering for housing. This ensures that your deposit is processed and that you can successfully access the online housing registration form.)
  
  
  • To register for housing, visit www.gotostedwards.com and choose the “Accepted Students” button. Find the “Select Housing” option on the left-hand side of the page. You will need your St. Edward’s Username and ID to login.
    
    
  • The deadline for submitting your enrollment deposit and housing registration is May 1, although we encourage you to complete the process as soon as you’ve decided to attend St. Edward’s.
    
    
  • Roommate Policy: The Office of Residence Life has worked diligently with Institutional Technology to match new roommates based on compatibility derived from the online questionnaire each new student completes. It is our hope that students, and not parents, fill out the questionnaire and do so honestly. Doing so gives each student an equal opportunity to be matched with a compatible roommate. It is our standard policy not to make any roommate changes until after the 12th class day of the fall semester. Instructions for requests will be provided by the hall directors after check-in.
    
    
  We understand that many incoming students will take advantage of the numerous online social networking communities (such as Facebook, Myspace, etc) to learn about their new roommate(s). While the Office of Residence Life encourages students to connect with one another we also caution students from making judgments about others before coming to campus.
  
  
• Transfer Students. You may apply for housing by submitting an application to the Office of Residence Life via fax (512-428-1021), by U.S. mail or by e-mail. Online housing registration is not currently available for transfer students. Note: Freshmen students are required to live on campus and will be placed before transfer students.

Declining Housing

All freshman students are required to live on campus unless they live with a parent or legal guardian who resides in the Austin area. If you plan to live in Austin with your parents, submit the housing exemption request for approval and return it to Residence Life via mail or fax (512-428-1021).
