Teresa History
Teresa Hall was constructed in 1968 as the second residence hall to house the female students of Maryhill College of St. Edward's University. It was named in memory of Mother Teresa McGivney, superior general of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Sisters who established Maryhill College in Austin in 1966; but the name was selected also in consideration of St. Teresa of Avila, patron saint to the IHM sisters, and of Mother Theresa Maxis, a founder of the IHM community. Teresa was last renovated in 1999.

Teresa Hall Staff 2009-2010

Christy Brown, Residence Director
My name is Christy Brown and this is my 5th year as a residence director at St. Ed’s. I have spent the last two years in Teresa Hall, and am looking forward another exciting year: Teresa (affectionately known as T-House) has a lively spirit, and the hall’s residents are always fun, active people who are heavily involved in the hall’s activities, as well as other aspects of campus life. Teresa is also home to our Global Understanding Living Learning Community (LLC), where students with a special interest in global issues live and study together during their freshman year, and I am especially excited to see our LLC soar to new heights this year!

A little information about me: I completed my B.A. in foreign languages (Russian/German) at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. After studying in Germany as a teenager, I had the chance to study in Romania and Russia in college. In 2007, I became an alumna of St. Edward's when I completed my master of liberal arts degree, and I am looking to continue my education even further this year. I began my career in student affairs as a resident assistant in college, worked at a residential high school for gifted students before coming to SEU, and this fall, I begin my 10th year working in residence life, still relishing the adventures of working with 150+ college freshmen each year!

Originally from the Chicago suburbs, I have lived all over the country and enjoy traveling and experiencing new places, particularly when catching up with distant friends. I love writing and reading, all kinds of music, taking in sporting events, and watching favorite TV shows when I get the chance. I am also a huge trivia buff and hope to fulfill a lifelong dream this year by appearing as a contestant on Jeopardy!

My office is adjacent to the main lobby and front desk area in Teresa. If there's ever anything I can do, or a question I might be able to answer, please don't hesitate to stop by!

Zach Carpenter, 1st North
Zach Carpenter here, from First Floor North in T-House!!! I am extremely excited about this coming year at St. Edward’s because not only was last year in Teresa such an awesome experience, but this year I'm here again to help build community and make sure that all of you have an absolutely amazing year. To describe myself a little bit, I love people and hanging out in the lobby (it's the place to be). I really hope that some of you are ping pong players because if it wasn't for Jesus, that would be what makes the world go around. I love playing soccer, basketball... pretty much any sport you can think of, and I try to play the guitar occasionally but I'm not the best musician. I would really like to get to know all my residents this year so if you would like to drop by and say hi, come see me in my room or in the lobby!

Long live Teresa!!!

Amarette Edmonson, 1st South
Hey y'all! My name is Amarette Edmonson. I grew up in Boerne, Texas, which is about 20 minutes northwest of San Antonio. This will be my second year at St. Edward's and my first year as an RA. I lived in Teresa my freshmen year in the Global Understanding Living Learning Community, so naturally Teresa is my home in Austin. I am stoked about being involved with the LLC again this year as the RA. My major is Communication and my minor is German. I spent a year living in Switzerland, if you want to know more about it just ask because I love to talk about it.

My family means the world to me. I have two sisters, Alyssa and Avery. Avery is older and lives in Temple, TX. She has two kids with another daughter due in September. I love being an aunt. I also love to go swimming and tubing; actually i enjoy any kind of water sport. I am super excited about this year because it is going to be super awesome!! So get excited about living in T-HOUSE!!!! peace&love

Maddie Arellano, 2nd North
Hey y’all! My name is Maddie Arellano and I’m from Dallas, TX. I’m in my third year here at St. Edward’s as a Global Studies major and this is my second year as a Resident Assistant. I’m the second of three girls (yes, I’m the middle child). My family is very important to me and I talk about them all the time. I love to travel and had the opportunity to travel pretty extensively in high school. This summer I studied in Cuernavaca, Mexico where I had some amazing experiences and learned a ton about the rich cultural history of the country and practiced my Spanish. On campus I’m involved in Student Ambassadors and a girl’s Bible study that meets one night a week. When I’m not in class I love running, reading, taking pictures, and hanging out at Zilker Park and Austin’s many coffee shops. I enjoy words and am always looking to expand my vocabulary (dictionary.com’s word of the day is my new favorite thing). Also, I’m addicted to Diet Coke and on average I drink two per day. I’m so excited for what this year has in store for the awesome community in Teresa.

Matt Norris, 2nd South
Welcome everyone to Teresa Hall! My name is Matt Norris and I am the resident assistant on Second South. This will be my first year as a RA, but I am definitely excited and pumped for the year! A little about myself: I am from a Holy Cross high school in Ohio, and the second child of four (family is very important to me). I love to socialize, as you will quickly see, and laugh at anything funny. I am super excited to meet everyone, so don’t be nervous to come introduce yourself. My door will always be open, so come in, say hi, or stay for awhile! This year is going to be incredible and I can’t wait for what’s ahead!!!
