Empower students affected by COVID-19
St. Edward's University has taken unprecedented measures to protect the safety and wellbeing of our students, including online instruction, the closure of residence halls, and more. It saddens us that we've had to make this tough decision, and we share the shock and disappointment of our students. We particularly feel for our graduating students, who will not spend their final months of college together and will miss out on unique and important rites of passage at St. Edward's. Yet, the community is meeting these times with astounding ingenuity, adaptability, and resilience. Who would expect anything less from Hilltoppers?
The St. Edward's family has always united in the face of great challenges — a major fire in 1903, a devastating tornado in 1922, a radically-changing educational landscape in the 1970s and the COVID-19 virus today stand out as some of the hurdles we have overcome through the enduring hope and faithfulness rooted in our Holy Cross mission.
On that note, we have received many questions asking what alumni and friends can do to help our students. If you’re in a position to do so, please consider a gift of any size to the student emergency aid fund, HOOF. Students are calculating the costs associated with this disruption, including unexpected travel, living expenses, or sudden unemployment. Several of them will rely on the Hilltoppers Overcoming Obstacles Fund to support them through these needs, and the university is committed to helping as many students as possible.
We also care deeply about your own health and wellbeing. If you are not able to give to HOOF right now, that's okay. We understand that this is a difficult and uncertain time for everyone, and the safety of you and your family comes first.
Thank you, again, to those who have expressed care and concern for our students. Your kindness reminds us of our deep connection and the many opportunities we have to uphold one another. We wish you all the very best in the days and weeks ahead.
