Billy Atkins, the director of Campus Resilience.

St. Edward's University welcomes Billy Atkins as the director of Campus Resilience. This is a new role at St. Edward’s, initiated to ensure the university community is equipped and trained to respond to emergency situations of any size, both man-made and natural. Atkins’ previous experience with the City of Austin’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management make him an ideal candidate to provide leadership on campus safety and emergency preparedness.

“St. Edward’s is a growing and thriving university community in the heart of one of America’s fastest growing cities,” Atkins said. “The same environment that provides so many opportunities for students also introduces risk. Having solid safety and emergency plans in place supports a learning environment where students can flourish.”

Atkins is responsible for management of ongoing emergency preparedness and related training assistance for members of the St. Edward’s community, including mock emergency drills and crisis response plans.

Atkins worked for the City of Austin as a senior emergency plans officer for almost 10 years. He has also worked for the Texas Lottery Commission and has a master's degree in Public Affairs from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. Atkins is an ordained Deacon for the Diocese of Austin.

Please join the university in welcoming Billy Atkins to St. Edward's.
