Cambria McDonald earned her PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from St. Mary's University. She is an licensed professional counselor (LPC) in Texas and Arizona, a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC), and is credentialed in neuropsychotherapy and interpersonal neurobiology. Her clinical work focuses on relational trauma, attachment ruptures, abandonment issues, complex trauma, and navigating transitory periods. Dr. McDonald completed her post-doctorate at Northern Arizona University where she served as a future faculty fellow. Dr. McDonald serves as the clinic director of the St. Edward's community counseling clinic which provides low-cost counseling to the Austin community.
Her research focuses on sociocultural factors that influence counselor vulnerability beliefs and professional images. Other branches of her scholarship are addiction and recovery, relational-cultural theory, intuition/spirituality, clinical neuroscience, and climate informed counseling. She has contributed to scholarly book chapters and presented at regional and national conferences within the counseling field. Dr. McDonald specializes in teaching courses that utilize a neuro-based approach to counseling. Some of her favorite courses to teach are Abnormal Behavior and Psychopathology, Addiction, Theories, and experiential courses such as, Practicum.
