The Bee Creek Initiative at Wild Basin studies water quality, watershed health, and macroinvertebrate diversity along Bee Creek in Austin. By comparing current and historical data and creating public outreach tools, the project aims to protect and preserve this vital urban waterway.

Amazon Lockers are available to the St. Edward’s community, providing a secure and convenient way to receive Amazon packages on campus. Our locker, named Japet, is located inside the Ragsdale Center.

Wild Basin volunteers support vital ecological monitoring, including quarterly eBird surveys, plant inventories, water quality checks, and reptile and amphibian studies. These efforts provide essential data for conservation and management of Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve.

Wild Basin is home to two rare coralroot orchid species, the crested coralroot and glass mountain crested coralroot. These unique pink orchids rely on fungi instead of photosynthesis, and Wild Basin volunteers are studying their habitat needs to support long-term conservation.

Wild Basin hosted a Texas bumble bee identification workshop led by bee expert Dr. Jack Neff, drawing over 20 researchers, students, and conservationists. Attendees learned to identify Texas’ 12 bumble bee species and explored strategies for pollinator conservation through native plant habitats

Six St. Edward’s students received 2025 Allan W. Hook Wild Basin Fellowships, supporting innovative research and creative projects in Wild Basin and Balcones Canyonlands Preserve. Funded projects include watershed studies, climate impacts on tree growth, and bilingual science education.
