St. Edward’s University Recognized as a Top Producer of Gilman Scholars

AUSTIN, Texas — Today the U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program named St. Edward’s University a Top Producing Institution in the Small Colleges and Universities category.

The Gilman Program provides merit-based scholarships to undergraduate students with significant financial need, enabling them to study or intern abroad. Since the program’s inception in 2001, 91 St. Edward’s students have earned Gilman scholarships, helping them build career-ready skills, improve language proficiency and expand global professional networks.

“This recognition reflects the university’s commitment to ensuring our undergraduate students can engage with the world beyond the hilltop,” said St. Edward’s University President Montserrat Fuentes. “Opportunities like the Gilman Scholarship allow our students to immerse themselves in new cultures, broaden their perspectives and return with experiences that shape both their academic journeys and future careers as they take on their world”

The designation comes as the Gilman Program marks 25 years of expanding access to study abroad opportunities by providing up to $5,000 in scholarships to outstanding American undergraduate students. Over the course of the Program, more than 50,000 Gilman Scholars from all 50 states, Puerto Rico and other U.S. territories have studied or interned in more than 170 countries worldwide.
