St. Edward’s University Awarded 2024 Tree Campus Recognition from Arbor Day Foundation

AUSTIN, Texas — St. Edward’s University is proud to announce it has been named a 2024 Tree Campus for the 10th consecutive year from the Arbor Day Foundation.

This achievement acknowledges St. Edward’s for utilizing trees to improve the community through tree education, investment and engagement. Earning Tree Campus recognition is a reflection of the university’s commitment to establishing a campus tree care plan, verifying annual investment in the tree care plan, maintaining an advisory committee, creating a service-learning project promoting engagement among students and celebrating Arbor Day.

In addition to receiving 2024 Tree Campus recognition, St. Edward’s has achieved numerous accolades commemorating trees across the university; 2023 Austin Tree of the Year (Unique Tree) for the St. Joseph Hill Twisted Oak; 2022 Austin Tree of the Year (Large Tree) for the beloved Sorin Oak.

Furthermore, in honor of its sustainability efforts and care for green spaces, St. Edward’s was recently awarded Green Grounds Gold Level Certification from Re:wild Your Campus for eliminating the use of toxic pesticides on over 90 percent of campus grounds, increasing organic land care, replacing fossil fuel-powered maintenance equipment with electric ones, promoting soil health and fostering biodiversity across the university.
