Hilltop pride and spirit was in full force as St. Edward’s formally welcomed our 24th president, Dr. Montserrat ‘Montse’ Fuentes. Throughout two days of festivities, our campus community and guests came together to celebrate this historic inauguration of the first Hispanic president of the university and her vision for the future of St. Edward’s. We are excited to share highlights and photos from the event.
A Historic Inauguration on the Hilltop
Since our founding in 1885 by the Congregation of Holy Cross, 23 presidents have led St. Edward’s University, shaping the foundation for our continuing rise as a premier private university. Each president has placed the university’s Catholic Holy Cross mission at the forefront of their leadership, building upon our fundamental values of academic excellence, social justice, service to others, and transformative educational opportunities for students from all walks of life.

Mass celebrated by the Most Reverend Joe S. Vásquez, Bishop of the Diocese of Austin, is by invitation due to the limited seating capacity of the chapel. The Mass will also be livestreamed on our Campus Ministry YouTube channel.

Presidential Inauguration and Investiture
The St. Edward’s University Board of Trustees welcomes President Montserrat Fuentes during a ceremony held in the Recreation and Athletics Center on campus. The inauguration and investiture will also be live-streamed on the St. Edward’s University YouTube channel.

Meet the President
Dr. Montserrat Fuentes is the 24th President of St. Edward’s. She brings a commanding knowledge of higher education, an emphasis on world-class scholarship and teaching, and a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion to her leadership of St. Edward’s.
