Dr. Mary Brantl is an Art Historian teaching across the discipline as well as serving as an informal advisor to students pursuing the Art History minor or simply Art History minded. Her interdisciplinary approach informs both her diverse course offerings and the range of her research pursuits.
Dr. Brantl is an Art Historian focused on Modern Art and, specifically, mid-century developments in photography. Her approach is contextual and interdisciplinary—no surprise given her background in world religions, studio art, and collectors and the early modern art market. She continues to build the niche for Art History at St. Edward’s (with courses ranging from Issues in Conservation to Art & Pilgrimage) while pursuing her own current studies on immigrant photographers. She matches a serious commitment to service on campus to such off-campus volunteer efforts as teaching English as a Second Language.
