Kathryn Eader is an Associate Professor in theatre design. the Chair of the Department of Performing Arts and a faculty member in the design/technology area. In her position as a design professor, Kathryn works with the design/technology students to help the individual develop a course of study that best supports the student’s personal goals. She is also the faculty sponsor for the student chapter of USITT (United States Theatre Technology.

Kathryn has been part of the professional theatre community for 20+ years, working extensively in opera. Her work has been seen with many opera companies in the US including, Houston Grand Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago and Austin Opera. She currently is the Resident Lighting Designer for both the Butler Opera Center in Austin and Austin Opera. In addition to her opera design work she has a broad range of design experiences in regional theatres, musical theatre companies and even some ice shows. She has had the privilege to work in close association and be influenced by some of the best lighting designers in the field including: Ken Billington, Duane Schuler and Jennifer Tipton

In teaching and mentoring our students, my passion is to help each one discover their true vocation and then to challenge them to become better than they believe they can be.
