Mass of Dedication for Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel: Oct. 21

October 21, 2014, marks a day of renewal for a small and humble building that has served as the worship center at St. Edward’s University for more than 65 years. After an extensive renovation, Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel will be blessed and dedicated by Most Reverend Joe S. Vasquez, DD, STL, Bishop of the Diocese of Austin.

Bishop Vasquez will celebrate the Mass of Dedication, which includes the depositing of the relic of St. Brother André Bessette, CSC, and the blessing of the  walls and consecration of the altar.

All members of the St. Edward’s community are invited to attend the Mass and come together to be reminded that our Holy Cross and Catholic heritage is a living tradition that challenges and inspires students to make a difference in their world.

“Restoration of Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel provides a beautiful worship space for our community and serves as an enduring symbol of the university’s Catholic identity, said George E. Martin, president of St. Edward’s University. “Financial support of the project has come from parents, students, faculty, staff, corporate and foundation partners, as well as from friends of the university. We are thankful and humbled at the commitment of resources for this endeavor.”

The Mass of Dedication will be held at 5 p.m., with a reception to follow. Seating in the chapel is limited. A live broadcast of the Mass will take place in Jones Global Events Center for those who are unable to find a seat in the chapel. Holy Communion will also be distributed in Jones Global Events Center.
